Instructions
Start looking at the Family Tree by clicking on any of the four indices in the top section above. The English Index is sorted in the order of the English alphabet. The Chinese 中文 Index is sorted according to the 康熙字典 Kangxi Dictionary (1716 C.E.) order using radicals and stroke counts. The Hoisanva 台山話拼音 Index is sorted by using Microsoft Excel with minor changes to group the same characters together. The Pinyin 漢語拼音 Index is sorted by using Microsoft Excel. All four indices are divided into three sections. The first section includes the most remote ancestors from 黄帝 Huángdì down to 謨 Mó. The first section is arranged chronologically. The second section includes all Chin (Chan, Chen, Chinn, Chun, Tan, Tran and other variations in romanization) members whose ancestral village is 潢村 Huang Village. The second section is arranged alphabetically by first name. The third section contains relatives whose surnames are, for the most part, not Chin, Chins listed in the third section are not from 潢村 Huang Village. This section is arranged by surname, then by first name. The main portion displays our family tree. Enjoy!

宗能叔 (Chĩn Düng Nãng) who, in 1995, gave me a copy of the Huang Village Chin Family Tree manuscript without which this project would not have been possible, 琴姊 (Kim Lee) who gave me a copy of her father's abbreviated manuscript of the family tree and who identified many of our relatives in old photographs, 珍珠妹 (Ginger Chinn) who gave me words of encouragement and many photographs in her collection, 健民哥 (Ging Chin) whose interest in the family tree encouraged me to continue with the project, 晃斌哥 (Bin Fong Chin) who provided invaluable information about the 德性 (Āk Xëin) branch of the tree, 長婆 (黃彩雲) who contributed many photographs from the 祥沾 (Tẽng Jëm) branch of the family tree, 艷影 (Yanying) who contributed the many village photographs and some very helpful commentary on my photographs, my wife Pikfei ("Kee") who was patient enough to struggle through some difficult passages with me, my mother who provided some colorful stories of our village folks, my children, grandchildren and great grandson who will hopefully enjoy this site and keep it up-to-date, and to my father, Fee Sheung Chin, who sent me to Columbia College in New York City, which offered Chinese courses and to whom this site is dedicated.

  • Click on a name in Chinese characters at the top of the chart to see ancestors.
  • Click on a name in Chinese characters at the bottom of the chart to see descendants.
  • For in-laws click on the English name at the bottom of that particular row. To return, click on the name in Chinese characters.

Note 2 - Fonts

  • Words written by Mũ 謨 are in this color.
  • Various commentary written after Mũ 謨 through 18th century are in this color.
  • Comments written by Gene M Chin are in this color.
  • [Bracketed comments] - in any color are written by Gene M Chin.

Note 3 - Meaning of First Column

The first column in all the charts indicates the generation number and generation character, if any. The first number is counting from Huangdi. The second number is counting from Mangong. The third number is counting from Shigong. The fourth number is counting from Mo. The generation character is also given starting with the 13th generation from our Great Ancestor Mo [traditional Chinese: 謨; simplified Chinese: 谟; Hoisanva: Mũ; pinyin: Mó]. When a person has a generation name or "married name" (prefixed with or without 號), the personal name is shown in brackets or prefixed with 名. Generation poems were established for our branch of our family starting from the 13th generation.

Anyone who wishes to have his/her name removed from the Huang Village Chin Family Tree, kindly send the webmaster an email to that effect and your wish will be carried out as soon as possible.
